Crutches Sized for 4'11" to 5'7"

Most crutches start out built for a six foot adult and then get shortened. This one started at the other end. The in-Motion Youth Crutch is made for the 4'11" to 5'7" range, which is where most high school athletes and plenty of adults actually land, so you are not running the posts down to the last hole and hoping it feels right.

Sold as a pair. Aluminum frame, rated to 300 lbs, and the whole set ships at 6 lbs.

If You Are Counting Weeks Until You Are Back

Rolled ankle at practice. ACL surgery in the spring. A stress fracture that finally caught up with you. However you got here, you are looking at several weeks of hallways, bus steps, and standing on the sideline because you are not going to miss practice.

That adds up fast, and crutches that fit right are the difference between annoying and miserable.

  • Left and right specific handles, contoured and sloped so your wrist sits closer to neutral instead of bent back
  • Handle height adjusts across the top five holes on the post. Those holes are offset so the screw seats deep and the handle does not wobble
  • Articulating tips that pivot as you swing through. Solid on gym floors, hallway tile, hardwood, carpet, grass, and gravel
  • Rigid lower post. No spring, no mechanism, nothing to think about
  • Lightweight aluminum frame, easy to control on a smaller build
  • 300 lb weight capacity
  • The whole set ships at 6 lbs, both crutches and packaging included

Why the Height Range Matters

Crutches set too tall dig into your armpits and put pressure where it does not belong. Crutches cranked all the way down get tippy and awkward. Neither one is a minor complaint when you are on them for eight hours a day.

The in-Motion Youth crutch adjusts through the middle of the 4'11" to 5'7" band rather than at the edge of it. A 5'0" gymnast and a 5'6" midfielder both land on a comfortable setting with room left to fine tune.

Treat the range as a starting point. Arm, torso, and leg lengths vary, and people have real preferences about whether the tops sit right under the arm or an inch or two lower. Adjust until it feels right.

Sizing Guide

  • Put on the shoes you would normally wear
  • Measure from the floor to your armpit
  • If that distance is shorter than 45 inches then these will be too tall
  • If that distance is taller than 51 inches then these may be too short because of the available handle adjustments as noted below.  The crutch itself will extend to fit someone much taller, however, the handle can only adjust down to the 5th hole from the top.
  • The distance from the top of the underarm cradle to the middle of the handle at the lowest available setting is 16 inches.  A person with longer arms may find the handle doesn't adjust down far enough and would want to purchase the in-Motion Pro spring assisted crutches that offers lower handle height adjustments

Before You Order

  • Sold as a pair, ready to adjust out of the box
  • Rigid lower post, no spring assist. If you want the spring, look at the In-Motion Pro line
  • Does not fold in half for travel
  • Taller than 5'7"? Go with one of our taller In-Motion models. Customers between 5'8" and 5'9" have told us the handles do not always drop far enough for a comfortable fit, and we would rather point you to the right crutch than sell you this one
  • Round, down sloped handles are sold separately if you prefer them to the left and right contoured handles

Who Buys These

  • High school and club athletes coming off an ankle sprain, ACL or meniscus surgery, a broken foot, a stress fracture, or shin surgery
  • Middle school and teen students who need crutches that fit a smaller frame at school
  • Short adults, petite adults, and anyone from 4'11" to 5'7" who is tired of adult crutches that never quite size down
  • Parents buying a real pair for their kid instead of living with whatever came home from the ER

Follow your doctor's or physical therapist's guidance on weight bearing and which mobility aid is right for the injury.
