The one thing to know
Medicare denies E0117. The VA does not.
Medicare has a policy that denies the spring-assisted underarm code (E0117). The VA does not use that exclusion. Veterans going through VA benefits receive in-Motion crutches under E0117 regularly.

How it works
Four steps from enrollment to crutches in hand.
Enroll in VA health care
If you haven't enrolled yet, start at va.gov or call 1-877-222-8387. Most veterans who served on active duty qualify. No service-connected disability required.
See your provider
Visit a VA Medical Center or any VA Community Care Network provider near you. That includes local orthopedic offices and surgery centers.
Ask for in-Motion by name
Ask your provider to prescribe in-Motion crutches by Millennial Medical. Give them the HCPCS code: E0110 for forearm, E0117 for underarm. That code goes on the order form.
VA fulfills the order
Your VA Medical Center's Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service handles the rest. For most veterans with service-connected conditions, the cost is zero.

Urgent situations
If you are being discharged after surgery or you are in the ER, ask for in-Motion crutches before you leave. Community Care Network providers can give them to you on the spot. No pre-authorization needed. TriWest reimburses the provider directly.

TRICARE and TFL
Military retirees with TRICARE for Life can often pair it with Medicare Part B to get crutches at $0 out of pocket. Medicare pays 80%, TFL pays the rest. Confirm E0117 coverage before proceeding.
VA vs. Medicare on E0117
Medicare has a policy that denies E0117 (spring-assisted underarm crutch) claims. The VA does not use this exclusion. Veterans going through VA benefits can and do receive in-Motion crutches under E0117 regularly.
The key form
VA Form 10-10172 is the Community Care Provider Request for Service form. It has a field for brand and model. Ask your provider to fill in "in-Motion crutches by Millennial Medical" with the HCPCS code before they submit it.
