Richard - in-Motion Crutches gave me back my mobility and fitness
Richard recently shared the story of his journey and how he came to use the in-Motion crutches to regain his mobility and increase his physical fitness level!
How Crutches Gave Me My Mobility and Fitness Back "You might be interested in how I’ve come to rely on crutches, not just as a mobility aid, but as a tool for reclaiming my independence and fitness. It all started with a knee injury: a meniscus tear that gradually worsened until my thigh bone no longer stayed in its socket. For years, I managed by avoiding straightening my leg, which allowed me to walk and even run. But when I stopped running (for reasons unrelated to my knee), things took a turn for the worse. Walking became painful, and my bad leg lost strength, especially noticeable when climbing stairs. To rebuild that strength, I took up cycling. My knee didn’t complain at all, and soon I could walk up stairs using my bad leg again. But when I stopped riding (again, for reasons other than my knee), the pain and difficulty returned. At home, I found myself minimizing trips from one end of the house to the other, saving up multiple needs for a single journey. Shopping trips, especially to places like Walmart, became daunting marathons. By the time I reached the register, I’d be in a lot of pain and still had to make it back to the car. I was determined to find a solution that didn’t involve surgery. About a month ago, an old memory surfaced: back in junior high, I broke a couple of bones during a track meet and spent 12 weeks on crutches. Oddly enough, I enjoyed using them. I learned to navigate obstacles and gained significant arm and shoulder strength, which later helped me join the high school gymnastics team. Remembering that, I wondered if crutches could help me now? The answer is a resounding yes! With in-Motion crutches, I can walk from end to end in the house and actually enjoy it. I can make trips out to our detached garage with ease. I know they’ll be a game-changer for shopping trips, too. But there’s more. Losing the ability to run and bike left me missing the feeling of being fit, and I worried about my health. That’s why I invested in high-quality in-Motin spring assisted crutches, ones that could handle more than just indoor use or short walks at Walmart. I wanted to get back to aerobic exercise. I tried a rowing machine, but found it unbearably boring. Now, I use my new crutches for fast walks on the trails in our woods and on the road in front of our house. In 40–60 minutes of crutch “running,” I’m working both my leg and upper body muscles, and my heart rate matches what I used to achieve on runs over the same trails. It feels great, and the crutches are holding up beautifully."Be kind. Be Generous. Always pay it forward. Support for Life's Adventures
